A Personal Statement

Cogito ergo sum.

Rene Descartes’ pithy statement: I think, therefore I am.

A lot of blogs out there use some form of this quote in their title.

• “I blog, therefore I am.”
• “I am, therefore I blog.”
• “I fink, therefore I am.”
• “I run, therefore I am…thirsty.”

I could go on,  but although the title may seem almost (almost?) a cliche, I want it to mean something different here. Not some pseudo-erudite label for my thoughts, but rather I want it to illustrate the many parts that make up who I am.

No one is just one thing: a political animal, or a travel writer or a foodie.  And no one is all sinner or saint.  Our personalities are a complex stew. So this is my way of saying, I am all of these things. And so this blog will focus on a variety of subjects:  politics, theology, current events, travel, family.  Because this is what I care about.

And this is what I mean when I say: therefore, this is who I am.
