A Modest Proposal

The latest partisan attack by a Republican special counsel portraying President Biden as a doddering old man who can’t remember squat may have provided the Democrats with their best shot at the White House in November. There is, of course, the damage from the unflattering portrait, which applies to the GOP front runner as well. And some in Congress and the media suggest if that is how Biden is now, should he remain in office? Good question. There is already a constitutionally acceptable way to achieve this with the 25th amendment.

But why choose to wait and have to watch headlines like this front page of Murdoch’s New York Post?

Sure, this may blow over by November and world events could put Biden in a better light, but could there be a better Trump ad? This is clearly far more damaging than the bogus Hunter Biden “crime family” mantra that seems to have no basis in fact and has not caught on outside the MAGA world.

Special Counsel Robert Hur’s personal, non-professional neurological opinion was the opening salvo, but it will be validated every time the President has to reach for a word, as we all do from time to time. The voters will remember and GOP ads will reinforce it.

No. Here’s my modest proposal, a bull by the horns approach. Picture this:

In an almost tearful, heart-rending — but very human — face the nation address from the Oval, President Biden announces he is bowing to the ravages of aging. And he resigns, making Kamilla Harris president for the remainder of his term.

Imagine what she brings to the table.

First, the abortion issue. Front and center on her agenda. It’s a proven election winner for the Dems.

Next, there has been the rumbling about Trump cutting into Biden’s appeal to non-white voters, particularly in key states like Michigan and Georgia. I believe that would evaporate when comparing Harris to Trump’s racial dog whistles. Sure, a black and Asian-American woman, already serving as president, with a Jewish husband, might turn off some voters, but they were already in Trump’s column. Maybe “Mamala Kamala” might even provide some energy.

The attack on her would be that she is a “dangerous radical.” But when the Dems compare the many Biden-Harris accomplishments to the detritus of Trump’s administration — and his legal woes, certainly a daily distraction for the Trump team and the man himself — her age, her gender and her racial background provide a powerful alternative to a Putin-loving, racist loudmouth who is proud to be the one who killed abortion rights.

And give her half a year in the White House to show what she can do.

And the bully pulpit to emphasize it.

Thanks, Special Counsel Hur. Unintended consequences from your damning report just might be the Dems’ best weapon.
